Agriculture as a subject for AL students has been
introduced in the School in 1995. Currently Agriculture and Food Technology
is taught for OL and AL, in addition with the guidance of the Principal all
the students in grade 10 and 11 are provided with compulsory practical
Agriculture training at school. This provides essential knowledge that is
needed for the Sirimavians’ leaving the School.
In 1997, Students’ Agriculture Society (SAS) of the School was initiated and
has been functioning very actively since then. It has been grown over time
and now paying a major role within and out side the school related
agriculture allied fields. SAS is demonstrating high-tech agricultural
practices within school premises; which includes establishment and
maintenance of hydroponic system in a polytunnel. There are number of plots
all over the school providing examples of urban agriculture practices. They
include some of the latest introductions to agriculture in Sri Lanka and
traditional varieties of crops.
